Inkline Privacy Policy
Inkline is a handwriting notebook app for iPad, made by an independent developer. The short version: your notes are yours, they live on your iPad, and we run no servers and collect no data. The details follow.
What Inkline stores, and where
Everything you create in Inkline — notebooks, pages, ink, text, to-dos, covers, and images you add — is stored locally on your iPad. We (the developer) have no servers, no accounts, and no access to anything you write.
iCloud backup (optional)
If you enable cloud backup, Inkline saves backup snapshots to your own iCloud Drive, in Inkline's app container, using your Apple account. That data moves between your device and Apple's iCloud under Apple's terms and your iCloud settings; it is never sent to us. You can turn backups off in Settings at any time.
Handwriting recognition (OCR)
- On-device by default. Inkline uses Apple's on-device text recognition to make your handwriting searchable and to power features like to-do detection. This happens entirely on your iPad.
- Optional cloud engines, only with your key and your consent. If you choose to connect a cloud AI engine (OpenAI or Google Gemini) using your own API key, then — only for the pages you process and only after you have given explicit consent in the app — an image of the page is sent directly from your iPad to that provider to be transcribed. That traffic goes straight from your device to the provider under their privacy terms (OpenAI, Google); it never passes through us and we never see it. Your API keys are stored on-device in the iOS Keychain. You can remove your key and disable cloud OCR at any time in Settings.
Spellcheck
Spellcheck runs on-device using Apple's system spellchecker. Nothing leaves your iPad.
Reminders, camera, and photos
- Reminders: if you choose to send handwritten to-dos to Apple Reminders, Inkline creates those reminders on your device with your permission.
- Camera / photo library: used only when you choose to take or pick a photo for a page or notebook cover. Inkline never scans your library.
Sending notes
If you use features that send content out of the app (for example, emailing to-dos), the content goes to the destination you choose, via your device's own mail and share systems.
Purchases
Inkline's unlock is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple's App Store. We never see your payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs the transaction.
Analytics and tracking
None. Inkline contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking SDKs, and no third-party code that phones home. The app's App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected."
Children
Inkline is a general-audience productivity app and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
